It is a fleet, unified rendition & less mannered than the later 80's recording. All the great Gouldian hallmarks are present along with some rhythmic foot tapping! The mono sound is very acceptable, even intimate in effect, & at no time does the performance sound like an ordeal for Gould despite his aversion to the concert hall! The final section after the slow 25th variation confirms Gould's mastery, leading into an exhuberant Quodlibet & affectionate Aria da capo: a completely satisfying performance. The playing of the Sinfonias is similarly inspired & shines through despite the low quality recording. No.1 is missing from the tape but again what we hear are superb performances.
