( At present discontinued) It is a most outstanding recording made in 1958 played by Richter on the Marien Orgel zu Ottobeuren, a year after this famous organ was completely restored by the well known German organ builder Steinmeyer in Oettigen, South Germany. RichterÆs playing is extraordinary - unmatched by any other, even by his own various other recordings on DG Archive. The most important point with organ recordings is the choice of instrument: the perfect playing of the artist is taken for granted. The easiness with which Richter commands the complicated intricacies of the organ is stunning - he reveals to the listener the majesty of this king of instruments. - built by the celebrated organ builder Karl Joseph Riepp (1710-1757) A CD recording would be invaluable for future organ scholars so that they too can experience BachÆs spiritual heritage brought alive by Richter.
