A unique and sublime performance of the Art of Fugue.

The clavichord works brilliantly to clarify the melodic voices of this work, one of Bach's most complex and difficult. As always, Richard Troeger's playing is lively, beautifully articulated and technically astounding. Frankly, I'm impressed by any musician who can actually manage to play this work but am even more impressed when the results are highly musical, intelligent and emotionally rewarding. This recording has all of those qualities. For the unifinished fugue, Richard Troeger presents his very convincing completion, providing further evidence of his highly intelligent musical sensibility.

And there's more. Also included are excellent transcriptions and arrangements of some violin works which are a delight. It is always a pleasure to hear familiar works on a different instrument and the clavichord is particularly lovely.

Richard Troeger is a world-class musician who deserves far more attention than he gets. I believe all of his recordings belong in every Bach-lover's collection.
