Demessieux's performance is very taught and glittering but never seems rushed. The fugue that follows is kind of a let down after the toccata, but is played with great sensitivity. The fantasia is also often rushed, but this performances is one of the slower ones I've heard. The recorded sound is excellent for the time (late 50's).
