This recording is outstanding in every manner and I regard it as the best "Anna Magdalena Notebook" available. Luc Beasejour's playing is lively (quicker tempo than the McGegan recording) and he appears to really enjoy these pieces. His ornamentation is generally moderate offering making this much better listening than the Kipnis set. I was not familiar with the soprano, Karina Gauvin, before purchasing this cd but will certainly seek out her other recordings: the vocal on "Bist du bei mir" stands out as one of the better I've heard. Particularly attractive is her "So oft ich meine TobackPfeife", although only three of the six verses included. If I could only own one recording of the "Notebook for Anna Magdalena", this would be it. While not a complete "Anna Magdalena", the quality of the thirty-three selections are flawless. NOTE: This is an import and is not available in the United States (Analekta is a Canadian label). I had to order my copy through the Analekta website and it only took a few days to arrive. Good liner notes, too!
