Almost forty years old and still a recording to reckon with. Sound is warm but crystal clear and the interpretation a winner most of the time even if a couple of fast movments (such as the gigue in #3) do seem to drag a bit to ears accustomed to faster tempi. Leonhardt is even more refreshing here than in his later recording on the Seon/Sony label. All in all, a Brandenburg of classical stature and a worthy comparison to later interpretations. |
