| Comments: | Julian Bream, excepttional guitarist AND Lutenist plays Bach with a fresh zeal and eye for period detail. Though Bach did not write a single work for the guitar, Bream makes each work sound perfectly ideomatic on what is commonly thought of as a Spanish instrument. Each piece is executed with flawless accuracy and crystal-clear articulations. Bream is easily among the top four or five classical guitarists alive today. Unlike most recordings of Bach on the guitar, this one keeps from becoming a "Best of Bach" by including three suites in their entirety (the fifteen minute Chaconne is the only excerpt). I highly recommend this recording! |
