This CD would be a bargain at twice the price. To listen to the Harpsichord versions of these works is like looking at a black and white sketch-albiet a master work. To make them into Oboe works gives them color and depth and to me more life. There is contained in the jewel case a bit of explanation by Heinz Holliger about how these works were made, what choices and decisions were taken to achieve what ends, and why. If I had any regrets, it would be that there aren't more transcriptions of the Harpsichord concertos made for Oboe. |
