Chorale Prelude, BWV 734 (Bach-Busoni) | | Format: | Compact Disc | | Record Label: | Pearl | | Catalog Number: | 9347 | | Year Released/Recorded: | 1922 1989 issue | | Total Playing Time: | 77'24" | | Comments: | BUSONI(!) playing NOT from Duo-Art (piano roll), but for the gramophone. Sadly, there are only the 2 selections of Bach; the CD contains Chopin and Liszt, as well as Egon Petri playing Busoni compositions. However, just to hear him play the first prelude and fugue, was worth the price of the CD for me. This is a performance that is reminiscent of Gould when he was being a good boy: unbelievable differentiation of the 4-voices, absolute clarity of form, and complete mastery of contrapuntal keyboard technique. The Chorale Prelude "goes like the wind" and displays Busoni's incredible leggiero playing. Oh, if only he had recorded more Bach! | | Acknowledgements: | Thank you to the following for submitting this recording and for your comments: | | Date First Submitted: | 11/19/1996 | | Purchasing: | Suggested Purchasing Sources
