Performance: outstanding
Recording: excellent
After being neglected for too long, Bach's sonatas for violin and harpsichord have suddenly become the subject of multiple releases by various artists and record companies. A delightful development, I can never get enough of these sontatas!
This performance by Carmignola and Marcon easily rises to the top of the pile. An exquisitely passionate but also nuanced performance by Guiliano Carmignola. His instrument sings and sighs these beautiful melodies. Andrea Marcon's accompaniment is a lively performance of vibrant articulation and harmony. They play perfectly together, the sound and balance of instruments is terrific. This is one of those recordings I can listen to over and over and hear something new each time. Highly recommended. Kudos to SONY for signing and recording these extraordinarl musicians. |
