This album is an really unique recording of the Orgelbüchlein. Every number is performed 4 times: 1. Tenor solo accompanied by strings 2. Concert organ (3-manual Marcussen of 1911) 3. Vocal Ensemble 4. Grand organ (5-manual Steinmeyer of 1961) It is most helpful and instructive for the right understanding of the work itself as well as for the interpretation to know the choral text beyond the bare beginning line. G. Dickel, organist and choir-master of the Lutheran Cathedral St. Michaelis in Hamburg demonstrates once more the dynamic, colorful and well-structured playing he is known for. The booklet contains an introduction by the French musicologist and organologist Georges Beyron written with great sensitivity and profound knowledge . The series is scheduled to be continued. |
