An intimate, thoughtful version that puts musical meaning before mere sound, yet Dieltiens makes his cello sing beautifully. The range of his expressive vocabulary surpasses all other versions I have heard. The d-major suite (1012) on a cello piccolo is something special! I place it alongside the one by Starker, but for quite different reasons. Just listen to it.
