Not really a new recording, but what a wonderful contribution to the repertoire! Anders Eby's interpretation is quite inventive, with judicious and often interesting choice of tempi throughout. As Simon Roberts points out in his comprehensive post to rec.music.classical.recordings, the soloists are excellent, and the recorded acoustics, as always with this Swedish label, are phenomenal. The choir (of forty-two voices) and orchestra (on period instruments)are also very enjoyable in their own right. I acquired it second-hand as an addition to my collection of several HIP recordings, and, yes, it stands up to their competition very well, if not preferably so. |
