An excellent, new, fresh and serious recording. Playing a harpsichord by Anthony Sidey, with a wonderfull sound (excellent basses and the trebbles very equilibrated), Celine Frisch offers to us a version of the Goldberg Variations, With all repeats, good baroque performance, the voices in the canons are very clear and a recording with no noise. Excellent choice if you don't have a recording and also for those who already have one or more.
This recording is complemented by another disc than contains the fourteen canons on the bass of the Aria of Goldberg Variations, performed by tha chamber consort Cafe Zimmerman, and the two songs that Bach used for the last variation Quodlibet, with original instruments and countertenor Dominique Visse, with a great and very funny performance of the first song. |
