Scott Blair said: I cannot conceive of a better performance of this work. Emma Kirkby handles this very difficult piece with ease and great precision. At speeds generally faster than most others, she still is in complete control and makes it sound easy. This is an excellent work done brilliantly. Bob Sherman said: I'm less enthusiastic about this. Kirkby's tempo is staggering, but the trumpet is dull-sounding and his attacks are splatty. Still waiting for a great 51.
