I think that Andrei plays this with much feeling but not over indulging. This is the most interesting and lively recording I have ever heard

4D Audio recording is a new concept in sound recording from DG. It promises to enhance clarity and realism in its recording. It is most fortunate that DG has released Bach's Goldberg Variations in 4D digital
sound, played by the Russian pianist Andrei Gavrilov. His rendition of Bach is most energetic and vivacious, exciting playing from the begining to the end. His notes are articulated and the ornamentations are executed with ease and clarity. Like Schiff, he retains the flavour of the instrument and observes all repeats. This recording is fresh, vivid and rhythmically alert. A recommended piano version.

As a pianist this recording of the Goldberg variations has been the most influencing piano work (and recording) in my life. It's to me the most intense performance without being too romantic. Everybody should have this recording !

Andrei Gavrilov gives an eminently red-blooded performances of theese variations. Only original instrument fanatics need look elsewhere. The recorded sound is very good indeed. |
