First three pieces performed on the organ at the Royal Festival Hall, the rest from Selby Abbey If you can find this recording, buy it! Fernando Germani was in his prime considered to be one of the greatest organists in the world, although there are only a few recordings available today. Overall originally released back in the 60's, the recording quality is very good. In my opinion, the Passacaglia and Fugue is the best piece on the disc; Germani uses unique registration changes to make this very popular piece sound different. The toccata from BWV 564 showcases his stupendous pedal techniqe, for which he was quite well known. The famous toccata and Fugue is not very outstanding here, but overall with the second disc of major Franck and Widor works this is a great buy. To my knowledge it is out of print, but I bought mine used for $8.99. |
