These recordings are beautiful. The soprano arias bring tears to my eyes. The performances are often exquisite, always intimate, very rarely sloppy, and even then remain charming. Another fascinating aspect is hearing so many famous melodies, like the Preludio from the Partita for Solo Violin, BWV 1006, recreated in another form. Bach stole from himself so well.

This is the first historical instruments performance, using boy sopranos. They can be sometimes shrill or out of tune, but the unique sound is still enjoyable.
