Although no pianist who plays the music of Bach today can ignore the highly individual style of Glenn Gould, there is little evidence of direct influence to be found in Angela Hewitt's playing. She employs a varied touch, makes sensitive use of legato, and generally avoids the pointillistic approach that Gould preferred. But she sees no contradiction in playing the music Bach composed for the harpsichord on a modern piano.
