Bach's Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord have risen to the top of my favorites and I've been buying various recordings. This one is exceptional with sentitive and lovely playing by John Holloway. The accompaniment on chamber organ of the first two sonatas for violin and continue put me off at first, and then a few minutes later I realized that I loved it. The sound of the violin blends with the organ beautifully. The inclusion of the alternate movements for Sonata No. 6 BWV 1019a is always a rare treat.
These are some of Bach's most melodic and accessible works and this outstanding performance greatly enhances their beauty. A highly recommended new favorite. |
