Rolf Lislevand is one of the most brilliant lute players alive. He is performing on this CD, BWV 995, 1000, 1006a, and 997. He creates the best tone, and the recording technology is magnificent. To me, Lislevand has common sense and a healthy approach. He is taking this music and living with it, creating new ideas and an amazing sound, but of course with tremendous research and respect. He is not concerned about "authenticity" or "re-creating the past." I personally do not find these approaches interesting either. Lislevand was obviously born to play this music and this CD I must say is the number one Bach lute recording, or perhaps even the best lute recording that I have ever heard, or perhaps even the best Bach recording I have ever heard.
