The best thing about this recording is that it is rock-bottom inexpensive. The playing is solid; all three instruments - flute, 'cello, and harpsichord - are played tastefully and fluidly, with the balance a bit more in favor of the flute than I would like. The tempi are noticeably slower than in most "Historically Informed" recordings, but in this case "uninformed" is bliss, because everything sounds pretty right; at any rate, these are the tempi on which I grew up, so there is a comfortable familiarity about them. Not the recording to blow your mind, but certainly a most inexpensive way to fill a gap in one's Bach collection. Hats Off to Point Classics. |
