My personal favorite recording of the lute suites. It audibly differs from the Jakob Lindberg disc (also a fantastic recording) in the sound quality. Lutz Kirchhof's disc is a bit more "dry" sounding, as if he were playing in your living room; Lindberg's disc has a "richer" sound. They are both great and each deserves a place in any Bach collection, but I find myself playing Kirchhof's more often. He plays the theorbo on all suites except BWV996 and BWV1006a where he plays a baroque lute. My most recommended recording of the Lute Suites. |
