Excellent performance of one of the most magnificent musical pieces ever written. Recommended!

Particularly clean sound, and immaculate singing, especially from Guy de Mey. The choir are exceptional and the detail is clear. Some of the less important soloists are ropey, but over all very good. I have heard the Eliot Gardiner version which is somewhat more wooden and impersonal. This, however is very authentic and involved. The location is perfect, and the large choral pieces are gripping.

A clear and transparent recording. Koopman succeeds in combining the 'authentic sound' with an involving interpretation. Guy de Mey sings particularly well and 'close to the listener' and the other soloists, among which Peter Kooy (a Dutch bass Suzuki cannot do without) integrate fully into the performance. Highly recommended - or more precisely, you should not choose without listening to this performance.
