Here's a surprise for a nice price!

Forget the fable that all 'authentic' performances are too hasty and lacking in depth. This is a strikingly slow, but very expressive and intense performance of Bach's Johannes-Passion.
IMHO, this recording never got the attention it deserved. If you really want to taste every note that is played, you should get this one.
Christoph Prūgardien is an impressive and involved evangelist, Barbara Schlick is in her prime and 'good old' Max van Egmond is reliable as ever. He knows what he's doing, and so does Kuijken.
