There are many excellent recordings of the Brandenburg Concertos. What makes this one special is its wonderful sense of humor and vitality. Overall, this 2-CD set is wonderful; there are those moments, however (as in the outward movements of the 2nd and 4th concertos), when the essense of Bach's music trully breaks through, and listens becomes real bliss. I always know a Bach recording is what it should be when, caught up in the music, I can't help but laugh out loud for the sheer joy of listening. And this is just such a recording. |
