I was expecting great things from this recording and was very dissapointed. This is the worst recording of these compositions that I have encountered. While the tempos are good the soloists are terrible. I had never heard of Julia Varady before this recording and after hearing her voice I know why. During the high notes of "Heute noch, lieber Vater tut es doch" she sounds like a goose being strangled. If you want a recording of these works Christopher Hogwood's on L'Oiseau-Lyre with Emma Kirkby and David Thomas is wonderful. |
