Fast tempi (Magnificat takes 23:29 -- it is mostly faster than Gardiners recording for example). Only five soloists. There are not ripieno vocal group neither in Magnificat, nor in Easter Oratio. Robert Mealy and Paul McCreesh wrote in the booklet: "Nearly all of them [PK: Choruses in Magnificat] call for a high degree of soloistic agility from every vocal part; Fecit potentiam is particularly demanding, with lengthy melismas for each voice in turn. Unlike some of Bach's other works, there is simply no place to bring a ripieno group in and out of the texture." Recording: Beand-Erbisdorf (Saxony), ev.-luth. Kirche, April 2000. |
