This lush performance of Bach's complex Art of Fugue is as emotional as Barber's Adagio for Strings. Following the order of the Wolfgang Graeser orchestration from 1927, the counterpoint is made clearly audible. I found the warm sound of the strings to be refreshingly beautiful compared to HIP orchestras, which can sound frantic and thin.
The Musical Offering is equally sublime and is truly lovely when played by this large ensemble.
The Munchinger 5-cd set of orchestral works may be out of print but this gem has survived and is still available. My highest recommendation. |
