A very beautiful recording on modern instruments. The Cologne Chamber Orchestra comes from a long experience with original instruments, before to replace them with their modern counterparts in order to meet the needs of the great concert halls. The orchestra plays by real parts following strictly the baroque performance practice and the original instrumentation of these concerts, that is by using recorders, gambas etc. where required. The instrument pitch is 440 Hz. The tempos are generally fast and enjoyable, particularly in the second and fourth concertos, the embellishments quite appropriate, the phrasing is superb, the sound crisp and clear. The volume II is completed by the concerto for flute, violin and harpsichord and the concerto for two recorders and harpsichord, a later transcription in F major of the fourth Brandeburg concerto in G major. Both CD's at an incredibly low price. Highly recommended. |
