These early keyboard suites of Bach's are rarely recorded, and even more rarely on piano. Andrea Padova's performance is a delight. His touch is light and fluid, with clear articulation and excellent tempos and dynamic variation. The piano is recorded very dry, so you can hear each note very clearly.
Note: The piano is tuned "temperament ordinaire". The idea of recording Bach on piano but with historic tuning is quite controversial. I must admit I had difficulty with the sound of the tuning at first, but it is fascinating to hear these works performed on piano in a tuning from Bach's era. After a while I got used to it, and Andrea Padova's exquisite performance made this recording completely enjoyable. I will be looking forward to his additional volumes of suites. |
