MFG:
Best period instrument recording.
JDR:
Pickett and the New London Consort are beyond reproach in this 1994 recording of the Brandenburg Concerti. The tempi are standard for the "period" movement leaning to the brisk side, though not excessively so. These performances are of the highest quality.
I found Pickett's liner notes interesting and informative if not a little eccentric. His notes gave new insight on the possible esoteric symbolism in the music, but I don't feel that these insights significantly impacted the performances presented here.
I would recommend this recording to anyone who is looking for a version of the Brandenburg Concerti performed in a more or less standard "period" manner. |
