Sadly, Chen does not see this piece as a cohesive whole but seems to perform it movements by movements. The digital sound by Naxos is good and at budget price, this CD is worth acquiring. Jan Hanford said: A frantic, overwrought performance that lacks all feeling and subtlety. His impressive technique pounds out the variations, one after the other, but there is no emotion, no expression, nothing musical. I've heard more appealing midi files.
