Trevor Pinnock's mastery of the harpsichord is impressive. His variation of the stops is refreshing and his spirited rhythms make for joyous listening. This is a surprisingly warm recording, lacking the crispy clanging of some harpsichord recordings. His expression is subtle and makes the most of the harpsichord's variations in tone, while also varying tempos to highlight the many wonderful themes. It is a performance of absolute perfection. Sadly this treasure is out of print. One has to wonder what record companies are thinking... Update: He has re-recorded the Partitas for Hanssler and it's a great recording! Click here.
