| Review by Jan Hanford:
Performance: excellent
Recording: perfection
This re-issue is the ultimate collection of Trevor Pinnock's recordings of Bach's concertos for solo instrument. Some of the harpsichord volumes have been out-of-print or hard to find and the violin sonatas have been out-of-print. So it is exciting to have them available again and collected into this lovely and low-priced box.
Pinnock is one of the best Bach interpreters there is. Although the orchestra is of the "original instruments" variety, their performances are elegant and lively, without any unpleasant eccentricity. I have always loved their cd's and am delighted to have them now in this Collector's Edition.

I don't have much to add to Ms. Hanford's prior comments. The packaging of this set is attractive and takes up less space on my shelf. Pinnock is superb, as always, and it's a treat to hear him play with Kenneth Gilbert. Without doubt, this is a "must-have" set of recordings. |
