A fantastic recording, both for the performances and the excellent sound quality; joyful music, sad music, and everything in between. We can only hope that Mr. Pinnock's impending departure as director of the English Concert to concentrate on playing the harpsichord will produce more solo and chamber recordings of this quality. Lives in my CD player full-time.

Pinnock is simply the best. Rachel Podger's performance is also exceptional, with lovely tone, elegant phrasing and intelligent tempos. I have a lot of versions of these works and this is one of the best. A favorite and highly recommended.

The recorded sound is superb with good balance between the instruments. Trevor Pinnock plays with his usual mastery (he just gets better and better with each of his recordings) and Rachel Podger is clearly familiar and comfortable expressing the deep emotion found in these wonderful pieces. Highly recommended. |
