Comments:I was a kid in the sixties when I bought this excellent recording of the Brandenburg Concerti. I was into Rock 'n Roll and the Beatles and studying classical guitar at the time. I had gotten heavily into Switched-On-Bach by Wendy Carlos and fell in love with the music. There had not been, to my knowledge, very many ancient instrument renditions of the Brandenburg Concerti recorded prior to this one. I seem to remember this recording as being rather novel at that time. The performance is excellent; the tempos are perfect, allowing the voices of the instruments to really breathe life into this masterpeice. I don't know if this recording has been produced on CD, but my copy is a two-record set on pristine virgin vinyl, which I fire up from time to time on my Bang and Olafsen when I want to indulge myself in the warmth of a perfect analog musical experience. I also like Trevor Pinnock's version, also on Archiv, for it's very fresh approach to the tempi; but in my opinion, the Karl Richter is the finest recording ever made of the Brandenburg Concerti.
