The recording is made on the wonderful instrument by Silbermann in Arlesheim Cathedral, near Basle in Switzerland, and Karl Richter displays wonderfully its versatility. As usual, Richter's playing is uniquely proportioned - his playing is relaxed and, for the want of a better word, casual enough to allow the listener to realise that he has completely mastered the works, yet, somehow, tense enough to keep the listener on edge and not to lose the essential sense of virtuosity of Bach at the organ. What a shame it is that Richter never recorded a complete cycle of Bach organ works. |
