I found this collection by accident, but it is probably one of the best CD purchases I have ever made. There are 4 CDs containing 12 cantatas in this collection, and it only costs about $16 (or 20 Euros)! Helmuth Rilling conducts all of them, and there are some world-class singers involved as well.
These cantatas are very well done; the recordings are at least as good as anything done by Herreweghe, Gardiner, or other big conductors, even though these are not period performances. The last CD, which contains Cantatas BWV 172, 34, 184, and 175, is exceptional. Rilling gives these four works a power and fullness that is almost Handelian.
This set is a must for any cantata fan, and it is probably the best bargain a Bach lover will ever encounter.
