Rillings style used in the delivery of the Magnificat in its original version, planned for Christmas in Leipzig and containing 4 motets (2 in Latin and 2 in German)is simply breath-taking. In comparing with the recording that was delivered in the TELDEC collection I prefer this one because of the more dynamic tempi. The brilliance of the delivery of the Bach Collegium and the Gachinger Kantorei (an example being the delivery of Fecit potentiam) make it worth buying simply for this piece. Von Himmel Hoch, first motet played, shines in its delivery by the ensemble. (Delivered a-capella)
Also on this double CD are included earlier versions of some beautiful cantatas such as BWV 120 and 197. I would recommend this recording to the anyone trying to discover the true nature of JS Bach. |
