Tureck's English Suite no.3 is the most electrifying performance of this piece I have ever heard; the Sonata in D Minor, BWV 964 is dazzling; the four sets of Preludes and Fugues from the Well Tempered Clavier, Books 1 & 2, are excellent, and whet one's tongue for the complete WTC by Rosalyn Tureck; the Italian Concerto is excellent though I think Tureck's performance of it on the 2CD set with Charles Rosen playing the Art of the Fugue is even better, perhaps the finest verion of the Italian Concerto I have ever heard.
The insert to this CD says, "Her CDs are among the monuments of Bach interpretation," Piero Rattalino, Piano Time (2/93)
Certainly, this CD, along with Rosalyn Tureck Plays Bach: The Great Solo Works, Vol. 1, Rosalyn Tureck Plays Bach (Partitas nos. 1,2, and 6), and The Goldberg Variations - all on the VAI label - are among the greatest Bach piano recordings I know. |
