Best, absolutely best, I ever heard. Charles E. Stebbins: I concur with your praise for this recording. It is unmatched in my (limited) experience. Every instrument is cleanly discernable and pregnant with a full range of tone. The interpretation by Savall is elegant, and the performances could only have been made by those for whom the music has a special place. Some of the middle movements could even be described as tender. I only wish more recordings of this calibre existed. After hearing so many recommendations for this recording from various sources I just had to hear it for myself. It is a beautiful performance; they are exceptional musicians with an extraordinary conductor. The slow movements are extremely sensitive with many details and quiet nuances. His tempos for the fast movements are a little too fast for me sometimes but it is still very enjoyable.
