A wonderful CD. The recordings whilst (obviously) old are delightfully clear, if a little hissy. The quality of the performances is, for me, flawless. Segovia's superb tone and intonation, his dynamics and his effortless rhythm make listening to this CD a lesson in humility for any guitarist.
But it's not just as a guitar recording that I love this CD. The interpretations of the pieces stand comparison with any ever recorded, and I include the violin and cello "originals" with that. In particular the Chaconne is breathtaking.
I think it's the perfect Sunday-morning CD. |
