"I have the St. Matthew Passion by Gardiner and I like it very much. I also have the Messiah by Shaw which I do not, mostly because he gravitates toward women who use excessive vibrato and sound like they are screeching. I notice that Shaw uses the same singers for the Mass in B minor... I very much like the female singers that Gardiner uses. They do not overdo the vibrato and as a result sound like angels as oppossed Shaw's pompous, howling, overwrought grande dammes." |
