An outstanding recording. Göran Söllscher transcribed these pieces which are not typically played on guitar. It is certainly a tribute to the genius of Bach that his music moves across the instrumental genres so easily. In the liner notes Göran Söllscher says, "In working on the arrangements I soon noticed that, except for the change of keys, there was little need to make any further alterations: the original versions were already perfectly suited to the new instrument. Therefore, I play here essentially just what Bach wrote, with a few extra bass notes where necessary."
He plays an alto guitar, which is a customised guitar with 11 strings, including bass strings. Not only is the instrument beautiful to listen to but his performance is exceptional. His impressive technique and interpretation made this recording a joy to listen to; I found myself craving more and playing it over and over again. I couldn't ask for more in a guitar performance of Bach and highly recommend this recording. |
