Lara St. John is a truly gifted musician and the performances on this disc are lovely. The addition of her brother, Scott, in the double concerto is a nice bonus and their performances are excellent. The slow movements are nicely done; expressive and sweet. However, the fast movements are a little too perky and I felt the melodies were sometimes obscured by the speed. It's all enjoyable but not extraordinary. Her performance of the Sonata No. 1 BWV 1001 for solo violin is outstanding but I would have preferred a recording that completed the solo violin works cycle (she has released three of the six). I'm not a mix-and-match kind of listener.
The come-hither photo on the cover is unappealing and does not have any of the artistry or creativity of the controversial photo on her first cd. Although I enjoyed the music, I could do without the sleazy photographs. This music deserves better than that.
